8/14/2025 Milton Dems adopt Gaza Humanitarian resolution
RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN OF MILTON, NY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE
ON THE HUMANITARIAN CRISIS IN GAZA
Whereas roughly $20 billion U.S. tax dollars in the past two years have gone to weapons supporting the destruction of Gaza;
Whereas over 60,000 Palestinians have died during the conflict in Gaza;
Whereas over 18,500 children have died during the conflict in Gaza, including death by starvation;
Whereas the entire population of the Gaza Strip, an estimated 2,200,000 people, is facing acute levels of hunger;
Whereas Israel continues to severely restrict the entry of food, medicine, infant formula, fuel, and other lifesaving humanitarian supplies, against International Humanitarian Law;
Whereas the health, housing, sanitation, transportation, and communication systems in Gaza have been almost entirely destroyed by Israeli forces;
Whereas Hamas committed a crime against humanity with its October 7, 2023, attack against Israel, resulting in the death of over 1,200 Israelis, and the taking of 250 hostages;
Whereas Hamas has stated it will release all remaining hostages with implementation of a permanent ceasefire;
Whereas the United States has a responsibility to exert its tremendous influence over Israel to insist on a permanent ceasefire and an end to Israeli restrictions on humanitarian aid to reduce further loss of life;
Whereas all U.S. elected officials should use the influence of their position to end the humanitarian disaster in Gaza;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE TOWN OF MILTON, NY DEMOCRATIC COMMITTEE:
Call on New York Senators Schumer and Gillibrand, Congressman Tonko, the White House, Department of State, and other relevant United States Government Agencies to immediately cease all offensive weapons transfers to Israel, and to urgently use all available diplomatic tools to bring about: An immediate and permanent ceasefire; the immediate and unconditional lifting of all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into the territory; the immediate release of all hostages held by Hamas; and, the immediate release of civilian detainees held by Israel.
Adopted this 14th of August, 2025
